Destiny Sault Ste. Marie facilitated a Greater Community Economic Forum on November 20. 

At the event, more than 100 leaders from the area’s private, public and non-profit sectors gathered to discuss growth ideas and generate solutions that will help bolster the local economy and build a more sustainable future. A number of bright ideas were shared, and they’re now being compiled to be used in a strategic planning process that will guide the future of Sault Ste. Marie.
 
At the Greater Community Forum, Destiny’s 2014 Economic Report of Sault Ste. Marie was presented. As well, a number of keynote speeches on economic development and partnership initiatives were given from various professionals, including:
  • David Ivan, Director of the Greening Michigan Institute at Michigan State University;
  • Oscar Poloni, a Partner with KPMG Sudbury;
  • Stuart Baker, from CISCO; and
  • Kevin MacIntyre, from the Greater Halifax Partnership.
Following the keynote speeches, seven shorter ignite presentations were given by professionals on specific topics, including:
After the presentations, a dozen or so separate discussion tables centred around various issues and opportunities facing Sault Ste. Marie. During these dialogues, a number of ideas were generated and recorded. This data, which is now being compiled, will help shape the future of Destiny Sault Ste. Marie, along with the future of the community.
