You don’t have to look far to see Mayor John’s impact on Sault Ste. Marie. From its economic diversification, including growth in the local green sector, to newfound quality of life benefits, including the build out of the hub trail, the community has prospered greatly under his leadership.

Following a long and courageous battle with cancer, Mayor John passed away Aug. 31.

First elected in 2000, he would serve a decade in office, focusing on transportation improvements and building international business ties. During his stead, Mayor John led the city to one of its quickest and most profound economic turnarounds in history. 

The Board of Directors, volunteers and staff team at the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation expresses their condolences to wife Donna, children Joel, Don, Patricia and Jody, and his many family and friends.

Mayor John will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on.
