Recent Progress:

International Bridge Upgrade
With a $44-million stimulus investment from the federal government, the new International Bridge plaza is expected to be complete in 2014. The facility will feature an expansion and redesigning of the existing port of entry, new examination facilities and other improvements. Also significant is that the new plaza will be the first thing travellers see when they enter Canada at Sault Ste. Marie, meaning there will be tourism benefits to this project as well.

HCR Short-Line Railway
The City of Sault Ste. Marie and other stakeholders have secured a one-year reprieve, and next steps are underway.  The City has also provided guarantee and has secured $3 million from the federal and provincial governments for continued operation of the rail line in the short term. For long-term operation, another funding application for $33 million is currently under review by senior levels of government.
